2007 Creole Heritage Celebration & Expo, October 11-14, 2007: The theme "Creoles – Alive & Well" will look at the continuing existence of the Creole culture and its links nationwide. Activities will include informational presentations, exhibits, genealogy, children's hands-on activities, Louisiana vendors, awards banquet and musical shows (Blues & Zydeco). Natchitoches - Cane River National Heritage Area received the Preserve America 2007 Presidential Award for their heritage tourism initiative. This is the highest national award given for historic preservation achievement.

In 2004, Natchitoches was named on of only two Preserve America communities in Louisiana by the White House and First Lady Laura Bush. In 2005, Natchitoches was named on of twelve distinctive destinations by the National trust for Historic Preservation.
